10 Fun Valentine’s Day Date Ideas That Won’t Break Your Bank

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and every couple in America is trying to figure out how to celebrate this special day that’s all about love. As Valentine’s Day is all about showering your significant other with romance, it’s easy to feel obligated to spend lots of money that you may not have. However, you don’t have to break the bank to show someone how much you care about them.

There are many cheap Valentine’s Day ideas that are just as romantic and allow you to show off your creative side. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Valentine date ideas on a budget.

1. Go Out Just For Dessert

Going to a high-end restaurant in town can be a delightfully romantic experience. With the right lighting, delicious food and a gorgeous atmosphere, you and your date will feel like royalty from the moment you walk in. However, a dinner date for two at a fancy restaurant can cost as much as several hundred dollars.

Luckily, there aren’t any rules about what you can order at a restaurant. You can reserve a table for two and just go for dessert and drinks, dramatically cutting back on costs.

Instead of having multiple courses at a restaurant, get dressed up and cook a romantic dinner for both of you at home. Then, once dinner is over, head on over to that restaurant in town that you’ve been dying to try out and enjoy a slice of cake and some cocktails.

2. Have a Museum Day

Do the two of you have a passion for arts and culture? With a little online research, you can find a variety of museums within driving distance. While some museums may be a bit expensive, there are many museums that only have suggested donations or offer special daytime discounts.

To have a Valentine’s Day with a cultural twist, pick a handful of museums to visit during the day and pick a cafe in the area so that you can stop and have a Valentine’s Day lunch date together.

3. Have a Spa Day

Few things are more relaxing than a day at the spa. By indulging in a spa day with your partner, the two of you can melt your stress away together and experience deep emotional bonding.

However, spas are notoriously expensive. A day full of spa treatments for the two of you can cost more than $500. Luckily, it’s easy to indulge in a spa day in the comfort of your own home. To set the mood, light some candles and put on some relaxing music.

To start your spa experience, draw a bubble bath and add some essential oils like lavender and rosemary which relieve stress. After your bath, the two of you can give each other a massage. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can even give each other a facial treatment with some basic skincare products that you have at home.

4. Go to the Movies

Perhaps the thought of going to the movies doesn’t sound intensely romantic, but as soon as the two of you step into a movie theater it will make you feel like teenagers again.

Going to the movie theater is a cheap way to get out of the house and enjoy an evening together. To keep up with the nostalgia theme, hit up a diner for a milkshake and some french fries afterwards.

5. Support Local Music

Chances are that those small clubs and bars in your area actually feature many amazingly talented musicians. Check out some local blogs and music venue websites to find a musical act that sounds appealing to both of you.

Most often, ticket prices to see local musicians are inexpensive. And you never know, the two of you may just discover a future superstar at that bar down the street!

6. Visit a Brewery or Winery

By visiting a local brewery or winery, you can get your booze on without paying marked up bar prices. Think of visiting a brewery or winery as a day trip and pick out a destination in a scenic area. As a memento from your special Valentine’s Day date, pick up whichever beverage you liked best to take home for later.

7. Bowling Night

Show your partner your competitive side! If you haven’t gone bowling since you were a kid, you’re in for a treat. Bowling is just as fun when you’re all grown up.

Bowling is an incredibly inexpensive option that offers loads of laughter. Don’t forget to chow down on some french fries and grab a beer to complete the experience.

8. Take a Dance Class

What’s more romantic and intimate than dancing with the person you love? Most dance schools in your area offer adult dance classes and it’s also highly possible that they offer special deals for Valentine’s Day. Whether you want to learn how to salsa or take up ballroom dancing, a dance class allows the two of you to keep your hands on each other all night long. What could be more romantic than that?

9. Find a Local Trivia Night

Trivia nights are becoming a national craze and many dive bars now host a trivia night at least once a week. Some trivia nights even offer prizes such as free drinks or even cash.

By hitting up a dive bar for trivia night, you can spend incredibly low prices on drinks while laughing and bonding with your significant other for hours.

10. Karaoke Night

If the two of you aren’t afraid of the spotlight, find a local bar that hosts a karaoke night. Drinks are usually cheap and the entertainment is free. If you’re feeling especially romantic, be sure to pick out a love song to sing to your significant other!

  1. I like the idea of cooking my own meals and going out to the movies. Valentine’s Day does not have to be a splash – you can still enjoy each others’ company spending modestly. It is the experience of being together that counts!
