History of Sweetest Day
Sweetest Day is one of those days that we celebrate, without really knowing how it got started. It is celebrated on the third Saturday of October, which is on October 17 this year. The history behind Sweetest Day was that it was created in 1922 by Herbert Kingston, a candy company employee in Cleveland, Ohio. He started delivering candy and small gifts to those he felt were neglected and less fortunate, so he brought a little joy into their lives to let them know that someone was thinking of them.
Eventually, Sweetest Day began to mean sharing happiness and good cheer with others. Since this holiday was established in the Great Lakes region, most of the states including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin recognize and celebrate this day, and as it has grown in popularity throughout the rest of the United States.
This is the day to let friends, relatives and co-workers, or anyone else who is special in your life know that you value their friendship. Maybe they’ve been a good listener, helped you out, or they’re always ready with a smile on their face. You don’t need to do anything special to show you care, a simple thank you will do. But if you wanted to pick up something special and you were looking for ideas, here are a couple of suggestions.
